The idea behind this label started as a counter-balance to the popularity that UR started to enjoy in late '91, and also as a forum for some of the UR partners to release their own material.
Hardwax peaked in '92 and released harder, harsher techno, in contrast with some of the more experimental UR music.

The UR crew used to hang out at the Hardwax record store in Berlin during their frequent visits to the city. According to Mike, they loved that store and liked the name so much that they asked Mark Ernestus to use the name for their new label. Mark gave them permission and the rest is history.

I am lucky enough to have every release, except #6, which according to Discogs doesn't exist. Wonder if that is some obscure thing that only Moritz von Oswald possesses or if they decided to skip that number for whatever reason, but I digress.
