IN THE LATE 1960's, THE AIRWAVES IN THE UNITED STATES WERE FILLED WITH THE MOST ECLECTIC-ELECTRIC-WRATHFUL-REVOLUTIONARY-ROMANTIC-SOULFUL-PSYCHEDELIC MUSIC EVER PLAYED. IN 1966, AMERICAN MUSICIAN AND SONGWRITER JIMMY NORMAN RECORDED SEVERAL TRACKS WITH THE GREAT JIMI HENDRIX ON SESSION IN NEW YORK CITY. NORMAN ALSO WROTE THE EXPANDED LYRICS OF THE SONG 'TIME IS ON MY SIDE' WHICH BECAME A HIT FOR THE ROLLING STONES. IN 1968 JIMMY NORMAN TRAVELED TO KINGSTON JAMAICA WHERE HE SPENT MORE THAN HALF A YEAR WORKING WITH THE GREAT BOB MARLEY, PETER TOSH AND NEVILLE WILLOUGHBY COMPOSING SONGS. THIS RECORD CONTAINS THREE ORIGINAL COMPILATION'S; 'WHEN THE TIDE COMES IN', 'FALLING' AND, 'I ASK MYSELF WHY'. THAT WERE WRITTEN BY JIMMY NORMAN. WHAT MAKES THIS FORGOTTEN LP SO UNIQUE, IS THAT THE SONG, 'FALLING' HAS ALL THE EARMARKS OF PSYCHEDELIA FUSED WITH THE ROCKSTEADY SOUND OF JAMAICA. THE LATE 60'S BROUGHT IN THE ERA OF TRUE INVENTION, BOTH SONIC AND MUSICAL HAD INDEED ARRIVED. -

Neville Willoughby was in the room when Peter Tosh was writing the song 'LOVE'. "We were sitting down in one of the rooms in Russell Heights, waiting for Danny Sims; and Peter was there, and it was sort of late in the evening. Peter started strumming this thing, and strumming, strumming and started singing one line and do another thing, and do with love, and more strumming, strumming. Then he started adding something, and adding something else. And I actually said to him, Hey, wait a minute, are you writing a song?" -

In 1968 JAD records co-owned by Johnny Nash, Danny Sims and Arthur Jenkins shifted from Federal recording studio to Randy's recording studio 7 above the family record store in North Parade Kingston Jamaica. The studio had four tracks, just like Federal, and the markings of great sound. Danny Sims and Johnny Nash came to the studio because of the engineer who was working there at the time, Bill Garnett. He was the one who custom built the board, so he brought Johnny Nash, Arthur Jenkins and Danny Sims up to Randy's. That's how it all started with Nash's crew. They booked the studio, the sound they got hadn't been done before and this propelled the influx of foreign musicians and artists coming to Jamaica. Danny Sims invited songwriter Jimmy Norman to Jamaica in 1968 where he stayed for several months writing songs that would eventually be recorded by Bob Marley, Neville Willoughby, Johnny Nash and other popular musicians.

'FALLING' was published by Jimmy Norman & Alphonso Pyfrom
In his early career, Jimmy Norman performed some session work with Jimi Hendrix, but he is better known as a lyricist and songwriter. He wrote the expanded lyrics of the song "Time Is on My Side", which became a hit for The Rolling Stones. In 1968 Norman went to Kingston, Jamaica and spent more than half a year there, working in the studio with Bob Marley and composing songs. A number of his compositions were recorded by Marley, Peter Tosh, Byron Lee and the Dragonaires, and Neville Willoughby. Some of the tapes recorded by Norman during his sessions with Marley have been commercially released as part of the Marley compilation album, Soul Almighty. -

Neville Willoughby recorded two Jimmy Norman songs (Falling and When The Tide Comes In) which were both produced by Danny Sims. Willoughby, who would forge strong ties with the Marley family re Norman as a "quiet, intense person, who wrote very good songs. The first time I heard When The Tide Comes In, I knew I had to record it." -

The year 1968 marked the date when the first official reggae recordings were released: "No More Heartaches" by the Beltones and "Nanny Goat" by Larry Marshall. It immediately sparked an interest, and the sound was duplicated soon after-this new sound even influenced the popular band, The Beatles, with their hit "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da."
