Seriously this release is one of those prime GLR moments that is truly phenomenal on both sides along with the beautiful art direction again on sleeve design and labels too, but for real "The Ladder" really takes it all to another level which you rarely get to hear in any style of music and that track is just beyond very monumental, and overall this one is highly recommended if you're seeking any deep thought provoking DNB. 💯

That reverse cymbol in system silence after the breakdown always gets me. This is pre liquid rollers of the early 2000s and was overlooked by the also great ladder on the flip

Edited 6 years agoThe Ladder... in my humble opinion, one of the masterpiece 'intelligent' amen rollers. Slick production, bubbling b line, a break & sample that work really well plus fierce beats.
The latter part of the sample from the Jacobs Ladder movie sums it up perfectly... "It's a fast trip, straight down the ladder". Say no more!
Rantoul has made some class stuff, this is probably my go to release.
Big Bukem set filler and can be heard on a Progression Sessions mix CD with MC Conrad rolling over the top... -
Edited 9 years agoThe ladder is a belter of a tune if you manage to grab this for less then a 5er then i suggest you grab a copy seen as you looked here for bukem type grooves ;) https://soundcloud.com/kiran-arora-1/rantoul-the-ladder-vocal-progression-sessions-4

Edited 14 years agoThe Ladder has a sample from the Movie: Jacobs Ladder/AKA: Dante's Inferno, which stars Tim Robbins and came out in 1990/91 the sample is from when Tim's character (Jacob Singer)speaks with matt craven (michael newman in the movie) who knows what's been happening to Jacob Singer and what type of drug the Army has secretly given to his Platoon. Michael says in the sample on this track "The Most Powerful thing I ever saw, even a bad trip and believe me I've had my share did not compare to the furry of the Ladder", "The Ladder?" Jacob asks, "Yeah that's what they called it, a Fast trip, straight down the ladder" replies Michael.
Killer track and killer sample best Rantoul track out in the DnB world!
Check the movie out also!

GLR035 - RANTOUL
SYSTEMS SILENCE
The first of these cuts from PS4 arrives with echoing stabs of interstellar sound, welcoming pitch-bending atmospheric sweeps and phased rhodes. The punchy, solid groove comes courtesy of a stepping rhythm alongside a substantial funk-fuelled bass, providing a high-octane backdrop to this fine space anthem.
THE LADDER
A tune with all the ingredients for a dancefloor mover. "The Ladder" rolls in with classic amen beats carrying subtle waves of strings and an infectious future-funk hook. Following a killer break, the cascading beats keep a powerful momentum alongside deep subs, heralding the inevitable floor fireworks...
