Bob Marley – Songs Of Freedom

Does anyone know who was responsible for compiling this box set in 1992? Who put it together? Did they get any awards for doing so?

I love this box set! It sounds so good! I don’t understand people who say it doesn’t! Any way everybody needs this box set

Quality is good however this does not compare to the original 1992 songs of freedom box set. This should be a separate release as it can not even be compared. It can be misleading for people who are familiar with the original release to see this and assume it is a repress of the original when in fact it is not. Not cool. Not recommended.

I just played my recently purchased copy's Side 1, the first time ever hearing this compilation. My, the bass guitar sticks out on all tracks (of LP 1, so far), as if, perhaps, the remastering engineer had boosted the lows above its flat EQ. Since I'm not familiar with the sound of the original CD and vinyl issues, I can only conject. To my ears this mastering straddles the fine line between a robust fullness and artificially inflated bass. I haven't decided yet if I am pulled in or slightly put off by this EQ.

When I replayed Side 1, I couldn't help focus again on the bass, rather than on what I would think ought to be the key element of 1970s Wailers tracks - Bob's vocal, which sounds to my untrained ear to be ever slightly ... recessed? Fortunately, LP 3 sounded slightly more balanced. Still slowly working my way through this box.

Solid pressing. Picked up for $35 on SoV during their Christmas '24 sale. Missing the first couple disks from the OG CD release, but at that price for 6 LP's, I'm a happy camper.

Although, it's missing the first 2 LPs, it is still a wonderful compilation of songs and a fantastic-sounding pressing. Well worth acquiring for any Bob Marley fan!

The sound on this cd box set has a great mix. It sounds very balanced. There are a lot of rare and alternate versions of tracks mixed in here. I particularly like the acoustic medley from Bob’s bedroom in 1971 on disc 2. They sought alternate versions for this release wherever possible which I like.

Bad mastering process, bad sound, they cut the highs and focused on bass only. The 1992 CD boxset wins about sound quality. The pressing is clean although. Another bad point is that they cut out the first 2 LPs. Not recommended.
