The Headhunters – Survival Of The Fittest

I have had 2 copies of this pressing. each skipped and looped at the same exact spot right before the sax breakdown. I was able to fix them with a toothpick but I think there is a pressing error. I have the runout with “…1C”. curious if anyone else experiences the same.

This pressing sounds great! Crisp drums. Big soundstage. Irrepressible grooves.

Acoustics Sounds 45rpm cut of Herbie’s Headhunters LP mebbe feels a little fuller in the bass. Guess that sort of treatment might work well here too.

If anyone has a spare cover they’d be willing to let go, please let me know. Version AL 4038 thanks

Nice pressing. No noise issues here. The instruments were easy to pick out in space. The recording was great. I had a few clicks here and there, but mostly clear sailing.

Cartridge: AT150Sa

Opening and closing tracks suffer from a vocal malaise that really detracts from the brilliant instrumentals. Yikes. Great transfer!

It has "PROMOTIONAL COPY NOT FOR SALE" written on the right hand side of label under SIDE 1 331/3 RPM
It's A-side matrix runout code is etched " AL 4038 - SA -1A then - (MR) stamped - then etched Triangle symbol followed by etched 19711(1)"
B-side matrix runout is etched "AL 4038 -SB - 1A then (MR) stamped - then etched ^ then etched Triangle symbol followed by etched 19711-X (1)
is this version listed anywhere - or do I need to create a new listing ??

I have this as splattered black vinyl. No sticker on front though. The record store hhv.de says the year of the release is 2004. I don't know though how reliable the source is. Most likely this is also 180 gram vinyl like the other undated release. At least thats what it feels like in hand. Sound could be better, but I doubt it is a bootleg. Can anyone confirm this is splattered vinyl?

My copy has a CTH suffix, pretty sure this version hasn't been listed on here yet. Anyone else have this one?

Definitely one of the greatest jazz/funk fusion albums of all time, If you hav'nt got this and their second album in your collection you sure are missing out. This album is the real deal no half stepping here, i would compare this to Johnny Hammond - Gears as a T.K.O.

Among the pre-eminent jazz-funk greats. This album towers above almost all others within a genre that threatened and even infuriated the status quo. Excellent mix of intense, high energy cuts alongside some heavy slow-burning trips. Not a single dull moment, and an incredible sound. I know that the words "funky" and "groovy" were coined long before its release, but this album is actually the reason those were invented. Positively, unquestionably, abso-tive-ly, the REAL deal. Melt this platter on your turntable 'til the end of days.
