Dire Straits – Money For Nothing

I can see copies of this are hit and miss; my first copy was fairly noisy on side 1, sides 2 and 3 were ok but side 4 definitely had noise issues, particularly during Brothers In Arms. But my second copy was miles better, much quieter and Brothers In Arms sounded great...

I like this a lot. Plays quiet, no pops, fairly dynamic (could be a bit more punchy), but overall very good. Rega P10, aura, BW 803s.

My copy sounds great. Definitely not as good as all the Mofi reissues and I wouldn't expect it to but it's better than the one lp version from '88 but not significantly. I've always thought for a greatest hits collection overall this is a weak set as the song selection could have been much better.

Back in the day when I bought my first proper brand new Stereo system (It was a Technics separate components system with Technics 3 way floor standing speakers) This was the first CD I ever bought to play on it! I still have it too! You can never have too much of Dire Straits. A timeless compilation CD that sounds quite good too. An era before all that CD loudness wars malarky.

Bought this from Columbia House Record Club when released. Played a few times and forgot about it. Now listening and sounds amazing on my upgraded system.

Flawless pressing for me as played on a Rega 3

One of the best pressings I’ve heard. Separation and clarity superb. Completely worth my money.

My copy sounds fantastic! Very dynamic. I have the original cd but the vinyl sounds much better.

….PS; My Technics SL-110A table has an Ortofon cart/stylus attaced to a “black widow” arm….not exactly a “sewing needle”. Listened front to back a second time, I’m quite satisfied ….

Different nuances or versions of the songs here. It is not an AAA LP, just keep an open mind. I enjoyed listening to this LP…As far as I know all or most of the guitars of Marks’ heard here have been auctioned off, including the Les Paul on the cover. Total about $11Million US$ with 25% to charity.
