Edited 2 months agoI am normally not the one to write my thoughts here, but this time I think it´s necessary. I bought my Copy of the Stripped 12" (the only Copy I own) on 18th of February 1986 in the Saturn Record Store in Cologne, , so I think this can´t be a 1987 Repress/Reissue. I controlled the complete Release in my Hands and it´s the one with the "12" in Circle, as shown here in the Pictures. Looking to the original UK-Release I think this is the first edition with the mistake of not deleting the "12" in the Circle and the one without the "12" are the second editions. Can anyone confirm this?

Edited 6 years agoThis rare promo 12" came with a 'Rush Release' press sheet which mentions that there is '..A TOTAL RADIO EMBARGO ON THIS RECORD. PLEASE DO NOT PLAY IT ON ANY RADIO STATION UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, UNLESS YOU DO NOT WISH TO RECEIVE FURTHER MATERIAL' All this is underlined ! They mean it !!
You should note the 'Breathing in fumes' is promoted as the A play side by the promoters according to the Press release: then 'Stripped is to be the next commercial release....but for our purposes it takes second place to 'Breathing in fumes'...'Breathing in fumes' is subtitled the 'Stripped mix'..On some copies the A label is red stamped with A: Breathing in fumes Stripped mix' and B: Stripped Highland mix' B label is blank and other copies the labels are completely blank. To all intents and purposes the same item but possibly some rare unstamped early copies were sent out until someone had the bright idea of stamping the info on the label although it is stated in the press release. -
Hello, your Pictures from the 1986 black Vinyl with mute logo 1 are not correct. These Pictures are showing the 1987 black Vinyl re-press. the 1986 first issue in black Vinyl have a specific sign on the cover backside. the 12 stands seperate in the circle and not on the white ground. 12 on the White ground is a 1987 and following re-press.

Edited 8 years agoOn the subject of Depeche Mode remixes - I think that they were pretty unique in that their 12" releases nearly always had both A and B sides remixed or extended. And here's the thing - their 'B' sides were often as good, if not better than a lot of other bands' 'A' sides. A Depeche Mode flipside was usually a treat.

Edited 20 years agoOf the 20 or so Depeche Mode 12" singles I have, this is easily my favourite. "Stripped" is beautifully done, as is the slightly darker and indispensible "Breathing in Fumes." Both are dancefloor thumpers: play very loud. I always found "But Not Tonight" a bit trendy, but it has grown on me over the years. All three tracks are great for mixing. The last two tracks are a bit on the quiet side, perhaps for coming down. But I'm never quite in that mood after playing any of the first three.
Like most Depeche Mode singles up to this point (except for a couple of always excellent Joseph Watt remixes) the extended versions are pure Mode and Mute in-house productions. After 1986, the "additional production and remix" craze, which polluted so many other 12" singles of the time, crept into at least the US versions.
The prolific Shep Pettibone in particular earned my ire for his many ostentatious re-productions. Ugh.
But "Stripped" and "Breathing in Fumes" are pure magic. Get it, damn you!
