Hüsker Dü – Candy Apple Grey

Flawless pressing. Warner's raraley got it wrong at the time. Flat, quiet, crisp, detailed, dynamic.

Seeing the modern Warner Records logo on an old looking silver face cd like this is tripping me out

Is this the same as the final album or is this an alternate mix?

Great album. I notice some distortion at the end of side 1.

Mine also has an RM etching in the runout but I do not see that here on this entry. The Euro version has RM but also another series of letters/numbers, which my version lacks.

Hüsker Dü takes a hard turn toward generic alternative rock on their major label debut, "Candy Apple Grey."

The quality of the tunes seems to have fallen. The entire record has a consistent negative vibe. Failing relationships, doubt, failing body and mind are the themes.

There's no reason those themes can't exist with excellent music. However, on "Candy Apple Grey" we get those themes mostly without the excellent music. It just makes everything seem fraught. It's not an easy listen.

It's not so much a bad record as an unappealing and forgettable one. I'd be happy with just the "Don't Want to Know If You are Lonely" single. The rest of the album feels like a string of b-sides.

It's a big step down from their prior record "Flip Your Wig," but the band recovers a bit on the next, "Warehouse: Songs and Stories," which for the most part continues the move toward alternative rock but delivers better tunes.

This compact disc sounds flat and airless, which compounds the lack of appeal.

"Candy Apple Grey" is far from their best, and not an ideal way to introduce the band to someone.

On the front cover, the title should be in black.

Ugly cover with title in black! Had to buy the original lp. It should be reissued anyway.

Save yourself some money and get the 2009 pressing. It's the same lacquers.

Pressing is nice and clean but lacking dynamic range, though that may partly be down to the original source material - can’t polish a turd!!
The outer sleeve is very thin card and the printed inner sleeve sticks to the vinyl like a limpet.
