Worth tracking down just for the Prisoners of Technology mix, which is not on the U.S. commercially released 12". Fun to hear the Beasties over a Drum & Bass track - they famously didn't allow their vocals to be pitch shifted in remixes, and this still somehow turned out super fun. -
whats the difference between this listing and this one? https://discogs.desbloquearpagina.com/sell/release/141341

This release shows just how much fun the Beastie Boys can have with simple vocal effects. All versions on the record are great, from hip hop and rap to jungle break beats. My favorite is the Prisoners of Technology mix which is dark and twisted and must be played loud! I often use it in old school jungle mixes and it always sends the dancers mental. -

Edited 17 years agoThe drum&bass remix starts out pretty mellow like with a hip-hop beat and slowly adds drums and kicks in. Rolls real well with the Beastie Boys' rhymes in there. Real sick tune. I wish whoever remixed it did a little more with it, but it's still great and something everyone always recognizes and loves.
The breaks remix is phat. Real bouncing track. It's weird though how the original vocals are pretty much untouched in the drum&bass remix, but in teh breaks remix (a slower tune) the vocals are pitched up. Sounds a little weird, but it's still a pretty good tune with some great beats.

Most descriptions of this single that I've seen cite the artist as Matthew Dekay vs Beastie Boys, but the vinyl itself has no information whatsoever on it except the MdK-logoed mechanoid on the blank side. The track itself is to me exactly the definition of progressive house, a long sweeping soundscape building up to euphoric peaks and dropping into breaks built around Beastie Boys acapella samples. Also, for a track of its length (in excess of ten minutes) it's remarkably un-repetitive, mostly because of the way it grows and breaks. It's a good purchase if you can find it, and the grand robot illustration takes pride of place among my other white labels.
