6K for a VG/G+. Nuff said. Where the fuck is this game going.

Great album, but it is a strange mix. Martin Denny recording at the Black Ark with Lee Perry? Not sure I’m getting much with the LP over CD sound wise, but the cover art is a master piece. Pressing is flat and quiet. -

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the strength of the signal, the mastering or the pressing itself. The 'faults' in sound quality people are complaining about are in elements of the mix, not across it. Some elements are woolly while some at the same time are bright. Some elements are distorted while others sounding at exactly the same time are not. The reverb is overly big but typical for 60s instrumental music produced by certain studios in certain countries on a poorer budget. What you're listening to is a full, loud capturing of a lo-fi recording which would almost certainly have sounded the same, if not worse, on an original Brazilian press.
I'd compare the sound quality and production values (not the music!) to the soundtrack to Dr No or Morricone's music for A Fistful Of Dollars. Or maybe 60s Arabic classical music. Check out the similar period, similar approach to EQ and reverb, similar production values.
There's no way you can improve them unless you have access to multi-track tapes (which will be non-existent) and remix from scratch (ha ha in your dreams!).
In fact I've just heard a full fat re-EQ and remix in my imagination. It would be dreadful and wouldn't have anything like the same charm. :) -

I disagree with previous comments... Lots of lo-fi psychedelic charm. It's probably the best version we can get, and if you like the music you won't regret... Totally worth it... -

Anyone knows who did the artwork? I read somewhere it was a guy called Julio Dui... Well...try to do a google image search :-) -
Edited 6 years agoi had both reissues and i put a lot of concentration into listening to both of them. The result was that they both sound identical. I am pretty sure Mr. Bongo used the same source as Poylsom/CBS. The only advantege is that the dust cover of the CBS reissue comes with an beautiful printed inner dust cover... The Mr. Bongo has just a plain inner sleeve.

Sound is very muffled, "echo -y", and distant in my opinion. Not sure if this was the production, but I doubt the originals sound this poor. Great songs, great music, shitty sonics.... -

I love the Mr Bongo reissue, sounds fantastic and they created the entire package to replicate the original including the original labels. Very very pleased with this reissue. Mr. Bongo are doing great work!
