Edited one month agoI hesitated a bit before buying this remix because of the low DR values of the CD edition (according to the DR database), but the digital has full dynamic range (DR11, probably due to the highs not being as buried as the original) and sounds faithful to the delicate nature of the original mix while improving clarity and instrument balance.
It also restores the acoustic intro of “The Gallant Crow”, which wasn’t used in the original, and fixes the abrupt ending of “Pouring”.
Fans of the original may complain about the mix not being drowned in bass frequencies anymore, along with the reduced impact of the bass drum and the keyboards being more prominent in the mix, but the result is much more intelligible than the 1995 mix. -
Edited 2 years agoCan anyone who has the original 1995 release confirm whether the audio is brickwalled on the 2002 remaster? Even a peak level comparison would be appreciated. I doubt I'll ever find the original, so I'm keen to know if the remaster is still OK (as someone who actively avoids remasters in any shape or form).
*update* Can confirm, this 2002 remaster is brickwalled to holy hell; I compared it with someone else's lossless rip of the 1995 original and there is a huge difference. Too bad I'm now stuck with the remaster because I got scammed by a lazy seller who lied about their listing. Lesson learnt: be sure to first ask a seller for details if you're shelling out big bucks! -
Sounds great. If you're put off by the remaster, don't worry. I still prefer the original sound but the remaster does sound "better" and won't be off-putting to someone who's listened to the original many times.

Thin cheap paper. Bad print (photo of band can not even see). It makes sense to buy this edition only for the sake of remastering of music. It's a shame, the reissue of the legendary album deserves more quality. 2 star of 5.
