Edited 6 years agoTook a few weeks to warm to this one but it is a nice album, more commercial then earlier albums but still nice..
Cutting stone & Sucker's Prayer are my favourites so far..
Pressing wise, I'm still not sure what to make of this, lovely signed package, thick card, nice booklet inside, Orange colour is cool! bit thin but I don't care a dot about vinyl weight and thickness as in my experience in my climate is makes very no difference to the sound quality, bit of background noise which I expect on a coloured vinyl like this but nothing too distracting, slight warp but nothing too drastic.
So my 1st experience of GZ media's sister plant in Canada has been a good one, I do hope it continues.
The thing I'm not so sure of is the mastering for the vinyl.. I have this on cassette & streaming formats and yes the vinyl isn't as loud and might have a bit more dynamics then the CD, cassette & streaming versions but to me it has lost something, like a bit of the life has been sucked out of it. Colin's vocals seem a bit lost in the mix as do some of the instruments, I think this is because the album has been produced & mixed to be loud and compressed which as we know doesn't translate to vinyl all that well so I guess somethings were changed. I found myself increasing and decreasing the bass knob on certain tracks also.
Still a lovely package to own though.. -
Easily one of my favorite mass market albums in the last 10 years. The sound is crisp and clear. The music is reminiscent of New Wave from the 80's and jangle guitar from bands like the Byrd's, REM or even some of The Replacements.
