If you own this Album there are no more Santanas you need. I listened to side one the whole evening, great! For an old live recording it is phenomenal
-
God can you imagine being at this concert? It must have been astonishing, and exhausting! Great pressing.

I have this 77 EU reissue. Bought it new from Jem Imports back in the day. Just saw that Mobile Fidelity is reissuing this (with a digital step).

Edited 11 years agoThe best version of Samba Pa Ti you ever heard, extremely long and groovy, the pure thing, not the pop hit. The basic mood is a weird latin jazz feeling, mostly fast, driving, exciting and wonderful. I agree to those who say that this is the best Santana record.

WOW... this is by far the best Santana album i have ever heard. Fast rhythms on slow songs with jazzy licks. This a mind-twister!!

Carlos and crew at the height of his career (unless you are an early Santana fan). Many consider this to be his best lp and good reason why. He had been working with Alice Coltrane and fused with a lot of psychedelic spiritual jazz overtones. Guitar is often used as noise and texture as well as rhythm, less noodling than you would expect. Really really interesting lp and amazing snapshot of what Santana was up to in the mid 70s. Think Miles Davis "Bitches Brew" done as Santana.
