Edited 4 years agoAlthough I bought this record for the B-side, which sounds huge, driven by that classic wobble in it,
it is the A side that really grew on me lately. Partially because of the sample on the B side is slightly annoying and I totally don’t understand what’s being said or going on, the main reason being the quality of dub on the A side. (Edit: Found the sample https://youtu.be/dRdgXmL8DvQ?t=90 )
Where a lot of records have dub influences by merely putting some verb and echo on snares and reggae sample before the drop, this record actually sounds like a B-side from some 1972 dub record slightly altered to fit your modern day 140 mix.
Probably because it is, it comes from “Dennis Brown’s Concentration” a song from 1972.
The snare is really loud, and will reach as far as the horns of the sound system will go. The bass is distant pushing the snare, oriental sounding flute and vocals forwards. The whole thing is just dripping with reverb and has that beautiful tape saturation thing going on resulting in a very authentic record. Beautifully done, I can’t wait to hear this on a proper system when this pandemic is over..
