only 85% is kind of criminal for i agree with the sentiment other commenters share, this is one of the best sounding records in my collection, mix is extremely clear and crisp so the quiet vocal interludes really cut through

Edited one year agoIn the Zappacast podcast episode "The Grandest Wazoo (& Waka Jawaka, too!)", host Scott Parker asked Vaultmeister Joe Travers the question "Have you ever been working on a project that you really wanted to finish, and you just could not find that missing piece?". Joe's response included unique information about Sheik Yerbouti pertaining to the then- archival release project "Funky Nothingness" (referred to as the "Record Plant 1970" project) and gave valuable insight of what it's like looking for material in Zappa's vault:
Joe Travers: There is some things with the Record Plant 1970 project that I still haven't found yet that I'm trying to find, like trying to find mixes. OK, for instance, do you know in "Sheik Yerbouti" in the links between the songs where Terry Bozzio and Patrick O'Hearn are talking? And in the background you can hear music, OK? Well, the music that's in the background is from the 1970 basement jam with Aynsley [Dunbar], Max Bennett, and Ian [Underwood] and Frank. And it's being run through a Leslie cabinet. These are really super, super nerdy things nobody would know. So it's like I'm trying to find those mixes, I'm trying to find those exact mixes. I found the 4-track tape that it was recorded on, but I haven't found the mixes in complete form yet. So it's just like "God, where are you?", 'cause everything is unmarked. And it's like walls and walls of tape, and I'm like "Please!".
Phil Surkis [Zappacast Producer]: You've been working on this 30 year-old crossword puzzle, Joe.
Joe Travers: I know. So true. -
Great sounding, but not Zappa's best. Poo and sex jokes wear thin on repeated listenings. As does Tommy Mars cheeseball synth-horns. Stick around for the instrumental parts, which by this point often feature Zappa's "xenochronic" guitar solos (guitar tracks taken from live recordings and superimposed over new backgrounds).

I have english version from 1979 with "side 3" labels on both sides of LP2. How to identify this version here?

Got this for $39 NM all around with a free record and a Prince sealed cassette thrown in. THIS right here is one of the best sounding albums on vinyl, makes you appreciate the music a lot more. Compression present on the CD remasters is completely eliminated.
If you're a fan of Zappa, find this record in great condition and run. Top 3 sounding record in my collection. -
This is really one of the best sounding albums I own sound quality wise. Really perfect production and mixing. Zappa had some sharp ears!
