This is probably my favorite album ever, and hearing this quadrophonic mix is like being in heaven. I've been listening to this album for 25 years, since I was a kid, and this mix brings out details of the songs that I've never heard before. It's almost like listening to a brand new album.
Tom Hamilton's bass, in particular, really shines on all these tracks; to the point that I'm ashamed that I've never heard the amazing things he's doing on every single one of these songs.
I never knew that such a thing as "quadrophonic" existed before 8 weeks ago, and hearing this makes me want to track down the hardware so I can start a collection. The problem is I'm afraid hearing anything else will be a letdown. I'm not sure anything else can live up to the expectations set by this release. -
Im not sure how this sounds on a typical stereo system ,its hard to find a nice copy
I did get to hear a transfer from this album on dvd that plays in 4 chanel sound on a 5.1 system
it was incredable ,,back in the saddle alone was worth it ,,its a different mix obviously
so if this a top album for anyone ,,you havent experience the full glory untill you have heard this mix
it takes "Rocks" to a whole other level
search for the dvd or blueray online its out there

Edited 3 years agoThis album is an absolute treat to listen to, even on a conventional stereo system. Each listen is like listening to Rocks the very first time again. I always hear new sounds and cool background noises with each song. The production on this is top notch. My all-time favourite album and proud to have it in my collection.

You said it all Cyko. Back in the Saddle is worth the price of ission alone. Some quads had a different guitar part or some other instrument to distinguish itself from it's stereo counterpart. Chicago-25 to 6 to 4, Steely Dan-Reeling in the Years and Pink Floyd-Wish You Were Here are 3 more songs that have different guitar parts. Aerosmith did 3 quads from their classic years and I like this one best. I will say however that most of the hard rock titles don't sound that great in quad cause most quads lack bass. Next: Steely Dan-Can't Buy A Thrill

The surround mix of this album is very well done. One of my personal favorites.
The extra production work on Back In The Saddle is quite worthy of exploration alone.
With the horse’s clop clopping around the room amound the twin guitar assult, stirs up quite a ruckus obviously proclaiming they boys were definitely back. The ending whip crack serves perfectly to dot the exclamation point on the sediment.
