This is the absolute worst sounding record pressing I've ever owned (re-issue is much, much better) but I kept it as well because the contrasting red and white album artwork is beautiful. The subtle re-issue art is nice as well, but doesn't compare to the original in my opinion.

Edited one year agoMy copy has a lot of surface noise. Even after cleaning it, I get a lot of noise. Also, the vocals are way too quiet so you'll be turning it up to hear the vocals and then quickly turning it down when they start jamming.

I love love love this album, which makes giving that 1 star hurt. Real bad.
The pressing is absolutely garbage, so I cannot recommend this until they give it a proper pressing. -
Bought new and sealed, this is without doubt the worst sounding record in my collection. Attempted to play it twice since I've owned it, though in fairness I've never made it past the first side so can't comment on the second. Surface noise, distortion - borderline unlistenable and a damn shame that so many of these are floating about.
I'm likely rather shooting myself in the foot as I'll be trying to offload this on the marketplace shortly to offset the cost of the 2LP repress, but at least if I post this PSA here my conscience is clear, right? -
Edited 6 years agoI find it incredibly odd that so many people, over 5 years after this semi obscure record release have thought this album sounds bad. I've had this since the day it came out, and have never once thought it sounded bad. It almost feels like, especially considering all the recent reviews, it's some weird marketing ploy. Just so odd. Colored vinyl and vinyl that hasn't been remastered and from the same mix, will sound at best the same as the original pressing unless it was pressed at a better plant, which the new release hasn't been. I don't buy these reviews at all.

Probably the worst sounding record I have in my entire collection. Which is unfortunate because it’s one of the best indie rock records of the ‘00s

The album has been lauded for its "power to emotionally destroy listeners". This is true. The sound on this absolutely horrendous pressing is so noisy and muddled that it could make anyone cry in frustration.
Such a shame that such a spectacular album received such a poor pressing.
