Notes

First USA pressing. Made in USA. Printed in USA.
This is the "non RE-1" pressing which has slight differences in audio (slightly quieter, slightly less bass) and a pressing error that causes many players (both software and hardware) to skip the first second of audio on track one.
Total time: 28:25

I'm not really a Slayer fan, per se; however, this is THE BEST metal album I know about. It's extreme, impossibly fast, and technically proficient. "Reign" is bookended by the band's best songs. This CD version sounds good to me, but I also like the sound of the original LP, too.

Note - My CD player does not cut off the first second of "Angel of Death," though it does start "Raining Blood" during the coda of "Post Mortem." Oh well, I always listen to the whole thing at once, anyway.

Which CD version is the true Barry Diament master? They all seem to credit Howie Weinberg, although there is an asterisk next to his name with no indication what it signifies. I read on BD's forum that the one with the longer version of "Raining Blood" was his mastering, not this version. I'm so confused...

This one is not a wrong mastering, but the initial and original mastering, done by Barry Diament. Not sure who did the more common mastering (with the longer outro), but the one with the fade out at the end of the album was definitely the original mastering. It has less stereo separation, less bass and a slightly lower level, compared to all later versions (before the album was remastered and included the "Postmortem" 12" tracks as a bonus).
