While it's nice to have this album finally reissued on vinyl, this release does leave a lot of room for future improvements... a 3/5 for me overall. Opt for one of the many original pressings instead... I'm sure you can find one that's cheaper in NM condition, and it will sound better than this. Or just wait for the MoFi reissue.

Edited 2 years agoThe Narada Michael Walden essay is very informative and describes the recording process and order of recording! Would have loved to hear from others involved instead of essentially the same fan testimonies. One was even intended for debut album and not this.

Edited 2 years agoDO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Crap pressing / low-resolution scanned artwork. A cash-grab by Sony, and nothing else. It’s laughable that there’s a hype sticker on the front mentioning fan testimonies. If you want to show some love, don’t buy something that has had zero love put into it by the record label.

Edited 2 years agoThis has a bit of a surface noise audible between songs and during quieter ages, slight pops here and there but not too distracting. Neutral sounding, not too much bass, just right, sounds ok. Inner sleeve does not have single covers reproduced like the debut album reissue but the 4 page insert is well done with some rare photos. Let's hope for an expanded deluxe edition with B sides and a live concert, etc. Will be interesting to compare this to MoFi version when it gets released.

Edited 2 years agoUnless you don't care about sound and MUST have it now, WAIT FOR THE MoFi VERSION JUST RECENTLY ANNOUNCED! If your system for listening is halfway decent, you won't enjoy this mastering and pressing.

The sound is perfect with no surface noise. Correctly centered and not warped. The blue colour looks nice. The only thing to complain is that the last track on side 2 hat some pops for about 1 minute. I couldn't see any scrachtes under strong light. So I've cleaned the vinyl but no success. Not to forget the beautiful music which brings me back to my childhood in the 80s.

I appreciate I’ve probably been overly spoiled with the VMP Whitney Houston boxset, but am I alone in feeling this repress seems a bit *shrugs shoulders* / “will this do?”
They better be storing up all their best tricks for MLIYL… 🙏🏼
