BC* – The Pulse / China Cup

As anyone around at the time will know, The Pulse was a massive tune. There was nothing else like it at the time. A hugely influencial track.

As i love Bad Company but there were two era's from them the first era being the best one between 1997-2003 because they offered us very dark claustrophobic tunes whereas their second era became WTF did happen they suddenly changed their style and roots to be the more smooth and commercial Drum&Bass like many other artists from 2004 to today which sounds more trance-ish/edm-esque drum&bass with chipmunk voices or annoying over the top female voices that ressembles more to R'n B to my taste .

We are very far from the golden era with proven artists such as DJ Grooverider, Ed Rush, Optical, Calyx, DJ SS, DJ Teebee, Nasty Habits, Panacea, E-Z Rollers, Makaï, etc....

There were labels that were once famous but became silly by offering no more quality like Renegade Hardware Recordings and Ram Records for example .

How I wish these skilled producers had some ion for broken beats that would find its way into these otherwise superb tunes. I understand that era meant and means a lot to many, so it is completely justifiable that these great productions have snares almost exclusively at 2 & 4. I'd just like to know if there's anyone who feels the same, or at least understand what I am trying to say.

True to form for the comments section for every D&B classic on here, there's a bunch of people claiming it's not that good or the b side/previous less acclaimed track is better

Convinced none of these people were actually in the clubs and raves at the time.

i like The Pulse. but China Cup does it for me. at 45 or 33.

It's not that great but I wouldn't mind finding this record at an antique shop for 2 bucks. I was really into this neurofunk style techstep at the time this came out so I'm not at all sure why I didn't buy this when it came out. I seeing it at breakbeat science in NYC too. The Pulse sounds like every other bad company drum and bass track I've ever heard and so does China Cup so maybe that's why. If I had this record for 2 bucks at an antique shop, I would use China Cup as its not a bad tune, I can't complain about it.

One of the best DNB releases of all time, and also one best Bad Company tunes of all time, The Pulse really is something. It begins with an ambient intro with nice 80's style pad sounds and then comes the killer synth lead which builds up before the bass drops and sends you nuts. One of those really awesome tunes that will just get stuck in your head over and over again.

The flipside is also one of Bad Company's best work. Loud distorted bass riffs with "The Nine" style drums. I feel like this and The Code's basslines are quite similar, as Bad Company likes to rework tracks. Seizure is similar to The Nine, Planet Dust is similar to The Pulse and China Cup is similar to The Code.

Overall fantastic release from the drum and bass masters.
