Notes
Specific features:
- Roadrunner logo on backsleeve.
- two pressing rings visible on labels: one around the spindle hole, approx. 32mm in diameter, and the other outer, sloped, pressing ring, approx. 18mm wide, measured from label's edge inwards
- catalogue number RR 9717 printed on the labels, spine, back cover and the lyrics side of the inner sleeve
- runout inscriptions are hand-etched, except for one or the other separately stamped character (symbol/letter/number) on some of the variants, e.g. variant 6, side A/B: "5" and "⋀"/"⋀". In some cases the stamped symbol "⋀" is stamped twice very close together so it appears looking almost like having a 3-D effect, or blurry
- comes with the printed inner sleeve containing lyrics, credits, photos, and other information
- some copies came with a Tour 1986/merch sheet: on one side European Tour 1986 dates and places, on the other side merchandise with order form
Similar European 1986 pressings with different catalogue number printed on the back cover - "MFN60":
Release 14662412: also differences in runout inscriptions pattern, both in comparison to the above version, as well as this particular pressing. As of 30.4.2025 there is also inconsistency in relation to matrix no's variants: variant 1 differs considerably from variant 2
Not to be confused with the counterfeit pressing Release 13678767

This pressing is a bit too bass heavy to my taste. Im missing a little more clarity on guitars and vocals. But definitely better than MNF60 anyways.

Just bought this and it is absolutely devastating! Loud bass, banging drums. And this on my current setup of Technics SA-600, Technics Sl-1200 MK3 and Boston Acoustics A70.
Pay the money, it will not disappoint . -

I had the UK Music For Nations 1986 copy and this Roadrunner version sounds better. It's louder, punchier and does the album justice to my ears. I bought this album originally in June 1986 on cassette after hearing 'The Thing That Should Not Be' on the Friday Rock Show in the UK and I have been a Metallica fan ever since.

Probably the best sounding Metallica record in my collection and I have em all! Just a beautifully recorded Heavy Metal/ Thrash classic. You will never hear this sound better.
-
Just checking mine and it's this version with inner sleeve and merch sheet but in the UK MFN 60 outer sleeve. I've bought it second hand so not sure how the switch was done. I'll list it as this one though as the majority of it is.

This was the first Metallica album I bought. Before I had heard it, I read a review about it (no internet then) which I exactly. It said "This is the best album I have ever heard, and I don't even like heavy metal." That's it. That was enough for me. Loved it then, and still love it now. There are so many things on that album, much of which we now take for granted, that I had never heard before. Truly groundbreaking stuff, imo.

Just bought a copy of this LP and my matrix is not listed, it is as follows:
Side A has etched RR . 9717 . A1 Timtom ()
Side B has machine pressed RR 9717 B2 but also has etched MFN 60 B2 with the MFN 60 scored out
