So bad it's... bad. Unbelievably, astronomically bad, so of course you'll want a copy. Sold out of dump bins in department stores for $2.99 in the autumn of 1977.

I got this and the Close Encounters one at the Dollar General new as a small boy. I knew they were off even then but bought them anyway. If I recall correctly, these were so cheap they lacked inner sleeves.

It's weird and brings enough unique things to the table to be enjoyable on its own. There is the one inexcusable tape splice in "Throne Room". If I hadn't grown up with this album, I'd probably think differently.

If you're a fan of the music, you really should pick this up. It's not great. I wouldn't even call it good. The first thing I thought about it was that this is what someone would try to perform if they had heard the music from Star Wrrs once.

It's very charming, it will cause you to have cringy reactions on some of the wrong notes and choice of instruments, and it's fun to bring out every once in awhile.

In summary: about as horrible as you might imagine. Moog-heavy albums from this time tend to either charm with their simplicity, or overextend beyond what the instrument is capable of achieving. The arrangements here are clumsy, busy, and tend to have notes that don't match the durations from the original soundtrack. Still, this aside, a fun listen - the pressing seems fine, the underlying melodies remain solid, and there are some hilariously strange choices that keep things from becoming too rote (see: the bassline/guitar on Imperial Attack).
