No Title Written on Front Cover
Sepia Toned Back Cover
Hand Etched Matrices (Rockaway Pressing Only)
Orange Label
Some had "invisible" NOT FOR SALE for promotion only stamped on jacket corner

The following notes are taken from "The Illustrated db Discography forums". http://www.illustrated-db-discography.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5200&p=27940#p27940
There were three pressing plants in the US - Rockaway, Indiana and Hollywood.
the other two were 1S, 2S and they have a small H or I in the run out
Rockaway is the only one scratched the others are stamped.
A from the first father
3 third mother
N 14th stamper
They would fill up sleeves with records until one or the other ran out.
1 father
10 mothers
10 stampers from each mother
these are just averages and each stamper averages 1000 -1500 albums.
Sometimes they might fault at 700 or 2000.
Why the matrices are different on each side
Midway through the first pressing, the ran out of the original stickers for the shrink wrap and started using a different sticker.
The early part of this first pressing has a clear sticker on the shrink wrap.
The later part of the first pressing has a mottled brown sticker on the shrink wrap.
'A GEM PRODUCTION'
Runouts are etched.

im very new at this so please do kindly pardon my bad Mouth "Meaning that i dont know what i speaking about" I have a copy of 1971 David Bowie - Hunky Dory AYL1-3844-A & OF COURSE SIDE B IT'S A Printed in USA LABEL IS bLACK RCA AND SAYS VICTOR LEFT SIDE
AND THESE ARE MY ETCHINGS ON THE RUNOUTS STARTING WITH
SIDE A BESIDE VICTOR SAYS AFL1 4623A FEW SPACES SMALL 9 THIS IS SCRATCHED OUT AND STARTS NEW AYL1 3844A 1 AND RIGHT WHERE THE SIDE A STEREO STARTS ON LABEL THERE IS A SIDEWAYS "1" AND RIGHT ABOVE LITTLE TO THE LEFT THERE IS A1
SIDE 2 AYL1 3844B 7 AND SIDEWAYS "1" NOTHING MORE IVE LOOKED FOR THIS AND I CANNOT FIND ANYTHING ON IT AND IM LOST THANKS SORRY TO INTRUDE STAY SAFE -
This by no means is a bad pressing, though being dynaflex the pressing is a little quieter with a little less bottom end to it. In comparison the UK RCA international pressing that was mastered by Bilbo, is louder, deeper, but not as pretty looking as this one.

Question: I have this version but without any matrix number (nothing stamped) Does anyone know what? Thank you

Edited 6 years agoPicked up this Rockaway 1st us press with the a1a etch. I nearly fainted when I saw them! 1st father, mother and stamper! Oh my.

I question the handed etched matrix's being the only 1st press version, I have a A-1/A-2 stamped copy w/ stamped 1/1 Mother's. My jacket border is square, no title cover, same labels that show misprint tracks vs the sepia jacket back. early hype sticker w/ LSP-4623-2 and the lyric insert. I will amend this if someone can confirm
