Edited one year agoThis LP perplexes me. Some of the funk and synth sounds get me going, but I just can't make it though the smooth jazz sections so this doesn't get a lot of play in my house. I can't help but imagine a young Kenny G memorizing the sax solos on Night Breeze while he developed his style...
But then there's the closer "From Ronnie With Love". Four minutes of chaos that erases any images of Kenny and makes me start it all over again.
Absolutely worth picking up in a bargain bin. -

Edited 4 years agoRidiculously good album; the only reason this comes with a light price tag is that it was popular, hence a decent high volume press for the 76' Jazz/Funk climate. Like all Ronnie's Blue Note LP's, excellent musicianship & that mix of sweet, with just a pinch of sour; effortlessly funky, yet also complex, allowing a smoothness that just doesn't tire the ears. Vintage synth heads are in for a poppin' bubbling treat. Master craft.
