I'm afraid I beg to differ with the consensus here. Unlike the more organic and human grooves of The Chic Organisation's 12" records released from 1977 to 1980, we're bombarded within the first minute of this remix by the girls' vocals assigned to a key on a sampler, pressed repeatedly and often. It was round about this time when promo videos also would splice, copy and replay a moment. Max Headroom had also been around a little while no doubt as well.
The beauty of those sublime late 70s tracks by Chic and Sister Sledge were all about the exquisite combination of groove, feel and simplicity and live performance on tape. It's a shame we didn't have a remix made in 1979 during the period when all these gimmicks weren't in fashion.
Avoid. -
This special remix is absolutely awesome and prolongs the best bits of the original disco mix by highlighting the intensely catchy Sledge vocal and the bass and riff from Rodgers himself. Some of Rodgers productions have been a bit sketchy when on his own but this remix is of undeniable quality. A new tune in itself!
Sampled by Goodfellas I think in Soul Heaven. -
Sonar by Night @ Barcelona - an enormous shed on the city's edge and 15000+ smiley happy people giving it up for Chic on stage, awesome!! :-))
-
Let's not forget the George Duke produced 'Smile' on the flip, sublime soul and an under-the-radar favourite, Buy!

Edited 9 years agoLesson one in how to take a track that isn't broke and fix it so it's even less broke. The 1979 original is a classic in itself; Nile Rodgers somehow managed to improve it here, right from the a cappella intro and throughout the 6 minutes of bliss that follow it. "We're lost in music / caught in a trap / no turnin' back..." - this is a disco(gs) anthem you simply can't live without.
