Edited 2 years agoI fit in with the other opinions (below) - great great album, packed with hits (and potential hits), full of great melodies and rhythms.
Personally I love this album - The Ecstasy of Flight, Taking It to the Top, High on Emotion, the title track - stunning. And it's the sound of my high school days :)
Of course it's the middle eighties production (Rupert Hine) and the album was recorded digitally - and you can obviously hear that. But it's worth underlining that vinyl sounds much much better (deeper) than the cd (very thin and bright sound and is almost inaudible). -
Edited 2 years agoAgree with the previous posters/reviews: wonderful stuff! The pressing is dead silent and dynamic. '80s production, of course, but this baby sounds great - and is dirt cheap in the second hand stores.

Edited 3 years agoThe follow-up to The Getaway tho personally I don't think its as solid it IS still a gem from the post folk music catalog De Burgh was known for. You have the continuum of production and keyboard work from mister Hine with hooks and of course Chris' penchant for a rousing rocker like High on Emotion. All in all a nice addition to his catalog and I wish to god someone would properly or should I say gently re-master the Getaway and Man on the Line. These are truly gems in the 1980s pop rock pantheon.

Chris De Burgh's most perfect LP. Every song is stunning with a superb running order. Beautifully produced and well played by all concerned. Chris'voice is on top form, very powerful on upbeat tracks, and restraint on ballads. Parts of it remind me of Queen in delivery and style. After "Man on the line" I dont think Chris ever made such a complete and powerful record. Absolute 10 out of 10 🎶👍👦👍🎶
