Edited 3 years agoOverpriced rip-off: 30 Euro (or often more) for a 2xLP that has nothing but a budget quality gatefold cover is not acceptable. Yeah, I bought it anyway because I love this soundtrack so much and hoped to get a better pressing than the Death Waltz version which is full of cracks and pops. Guess what, this one is even worse, can't listen to it!
Edit: I had the chance to compare it to the second pressing, and that one is much better, only very few light cracks. The second pressing is on thinner vinyl though (probably 140 g), while the first pressing seems like 160 g. Also, the first pressing's green is more pastel like and solid, while the second pressing's green is clean and transparent. -
A few loud cracks right at the start on each side, but otherwise very quiet and smooth. Awesome presentation!

Beautiful release with white and green records. Sounds incredible. John Carpenter's best in my opinion.

Great pressing as far as I'm concerned. No problem with pops in my experience. Both high and low end are fantastic. Lots of content on here too. Super happy for the price paid!

My copy is dead silent, quite perfect for this great ambient score. Very good job from Silva Screen.

In reference to the YouTube video posted of this entire record. Jesus - surface noise to the max on the vinyl! That sucks to be quite honest.

Great release that might not be as luxurious as the DW release but it has the original artwork which is good. DW's cover was not that good to be honest even if the whole package design was stellar. I own both editions and as far as I´m concerned this edition (Silva Screen) sounds just as good as the DW edition. Recommended!

I've been wanting to grab the original soundtrack of The Fog for sometime but haven't wanted to pay the outrageous prices. I would have grabbed the Death Waltz reissue but I wasn't impressed with their cover art.
This version from Silva Screen is quite impressive with great care given to both the packaging and pressing. The cover is an image familiar with the Carpenter movie and the gatefold is packed with information about the remastering.
There is a lot of music here over two records (one white, one greenish) as it covers the score, original soundtrack, and bonus material. The liner notes explain the challenges involved in taking Carpenter's original mono mixes and created a stereo space. The results are sonically pleasing with a full, cinematic sound. And while I haven't heard the original Varèse Sarabande or Death Waltz versions, I can't imagine they sound better than they do here.
Also, the pressing is wonderful. Despite being on colored vinyl, the records play dead quiet even during the quietest moments from the score.
One drawback is the price but it's a lot cheaper then the price for the original or even the Death Waltz reissue.
Highly recommended! -
