Why nobody puts this up there with the other great folk psych is beyond me ... Maybe they do but I don't hear about it enough. This album moved me, it's so damn good

A relatively unknown gem, with terrific songs (by Matthews himself and two killer tunes from the Richard Farina songbook) and soulful participation by guitarist Richard Thompson throughout. This is like another chapter in the Fairport novel, one without Yorkshire fiddle and thistle. However, as this is inexpensive, I have several copies of it, and no pressing is great. The fidelity and production are good, but I am talking about the vinyl itself--I don't know if it is "fuel crisis" era vinyl, but it is given to odd vertical warps, ripples, and other defects. No copy I have has ever been played much. The vinyl itself just wasn't great, but still: a great set.
