Edited one year agoGiven that this press has US cut DMM on one side and a British cut by Jack Adams on the other, it's jarring to listen to as an album. the JA side is my preferred, not as aggressive sounding-- good detail, frequency extension and a little lower in volume. The DMM side I find aggressive, rolled off on the highs, cut hot and fatiguing.
This pressing is like a sampler of what good and average pressing can sound like. -
It's debatable whether the LP is the master release. The band have mentioned they had the CD format in mind when making the album, and at over 62 minutes it kind of proves it.

Here it is, the king of long playing LPs. 62 minutes of music, crushed into a single LP and still manages to sound great. Seriously, considering it’s length, it still retains Hysteria’s iconic sonic punch whilst bathing in theatrical nirvana. Great LP

Edited 5 years agoThe album in general is great. I compared it with the remastered 30th anniversary pressing of 2017. Its less loud than the 2017 pressing, the bass and the drums have less power, but to me it sounds more balanced and the listening for me is more enjoyable. So which pressing is better? If you want the most powerful and a loud (sometimes earaching) version, go for the anniversary pressing. If you want it more well-balanced, this pressing is best!

Another missed opportunity by the record company. Everybody knows that factory pressed cds can go above 80mins these days, just take the rest of New Order or both discs of So80s presents Alphaville as examples, so why did they not put the In The Round show on 1 disc & give us the dvd of said concert as the 3rd disc? Tsk tsk morons :)

One of my favorite metal albums of the 80s. Probably my favorite period. My favorite track is Animal and even the video was fun to watch when it was plastered all over MTV. Second favorite is the title track Hysteria. Hysteria the track is more of an easy listening metal track then a real full on metal track. It reeks of 1980s mall music. It's a favorite and I even like the similar track that Iron Maiden did called "Somewhere in Time". Its hard to sum up this album but my favorite memories of this was when I would listen to this album on the way to vacation in Wild Wood NJ which was an obscure amusement ride mecca. To this day I really enjoy this album and the DVD called "In the round" is a great way to visually enjoy this album (the modern Blu-Ray concert is annoying with all of the video screens).

Edited 9 years agoI find know the old vinyl vs cd argument, but I personally find the vinyl has a very nice sound indeed.
