Cat Stevens – Tea For The Tillerman

Just listening to my copy, it’s a really great pressing, quiet with great dynamics. I have nothing to compare to with but I can only imagine that this version would give any other version a run for its money.

I was making one of my monthly orders on Acoustic Sounds and I happened to see this box on sale so being a fan of this release I decided to go for it and threw it into my order. Sometimes impulse buys pay off and other times they end up in the “listened to once” collection and I’d have to say that this falls into the latter unfortunately. If I would have actually read through the description about the contents I probably would have known that what I presumed was the remastered LP was a “remix” LP and I would have left this set at Acoustic Sounds. The remix LP is in my opinion hard to listen too due to two reasons, one the pressing is horrible, it’s noisy and cleaning it three times did it no justice and the second is the fact that this “remix” flat out stinks compared to the original album. The live LP is what it is , it’s certainly not the best live recordings I’ve ever heard but once again the pressing suffers from way to much unwanted noise and static. The CD collection is ok I guess if digital media is your thing but the only bright spot I found was the included book that proved to be some pretty informative reading. The memorabilia is cool if you’re a big Cat fan I guess but overall this box set was kind of a bummer.

If you’re having an issue with sibilance listening to this pressing you may want to replace your cartridge because this sounds excellent from start to finish. At the prices you can currently purchase a used copy of this in my opinion it’s an easy yes unless you’re ready to dish out the absurd prices people are asking for the AP pressing?

Got a used copy. Looked pristine and shiny. But boy was it noisy. Especially on first cut of each side. Makes me think it was a botched press. Anyway it’s less noisy than my old US first pressing. But boy does this mastering sound good! Happy with the sound. If you can find one with less crackle than mine you’ll be a happy camper. .

By far the best of the many versions I’ve heard.

This thing stands out! Very quiet pressing. Sound quality is top notch.

There must be quality variation in this particular copy. Just picked this one today for cheap at LRS, once dropped needle I know why it’s cheap: high noise level, vocal is harsh, brittle and recessed, whole album has low volume….it sound like bootleg quality. Will dump this piece of shit tomorrow.

It says "Tillermann" on the spine of the sleeve, instead of "Tillerman".

Should be said that Yusef supervised these 50th Anniversary Editions and they sound great!
