Bell Witch – Longing

Sounds great, looks great, though it does seem to suffer from some pop and crackles even after being brushed, as noted with what seems like every version. Also had an interesting loop that repeated a snippet at one part (of side c?) but then continued on as normal, which was kind of funny but disruptive to the mood of the album.
All in all, I'm happy to finally have a copy after pas the original press like a dummy all those years ago due to finances at the time.
I don't fault this pressing for these playback quality issues because they seem to be present on every version, which makes me think it's just the same plates they've used all this time; the problem residing therein. The odd surface noise aside, it sounds pretty full, clear, pummeling the wall you share with your neighbor with full enough force to rattle the pictures hanging on your wall. A welcome addition to the collection. Play it loud, absorb yourself into the doomy goodness, just don't get too startled when it cracks at you. Accept it for its flaws as you do with those around you.

Fantastic album, not a great pressing. Non-fill and surface noise after two es through an ultrasonic cleaner. Sounds good otherwise, mastering is solid.

Wow this record sounds fantastic and looks to be pressed by RTI.. they use the clear poly sleeves and the record edges are smooth and rounded. After reading bad reviews of previous pressings I’m glad I’ve got this. No tip on jacket here but I’d rather have a superior pressing imho.

Excellent record and packaging. The recording is superb but by the gods.. with so many quiet segments... its a snap, crackle and pop fest.... pressed in sandstorm..... what a shame.

One of my favorite Doom records of all time. I had the pleasure of seeing them perform this album live at Dark Descent fest many years ago. Adrian was still alive, and I got to chat with him about the record, and gush about my love for it. Signed by both him and Dylan, this is a prized possession.

The quality of the music ranges from quite good to excellent. The more sorrowful and melodic parts are great, whereas the more plain crushing parts aren't that special, but still all right. Maybe there are some Warning influences? The sound is great for this type of stuff. The clean vocals aren't that special, but ok. The low growling and high-pitched screams are good, but they're used quite sparingly. The drummer often plays really neat stuff, and at times the drumming gives single parts a lot of life, some times reminding me of 40 Watt Sun, which I love.

The problem is the lenght: both most of the single tracks and the whole album are simply too long. This has great potential, but the length makes it too heavy to listen to: the interest can't be maintained this long. This would be a great album if, say, 1/3 of the songs was cut off.

Brilliant album. Fun fact: track 4 contains dialogue from the movie The Masque of the Red Death starring Vincent Price.

One of my favorite vinyls in my collection. T he whole presentation of this release is great with a near perfect sound.
