Chicago (2) – Chicago IX Chicago's Greatest Hits

Was skeptical to buy this…especially used. Glad I pulled the trigger. Sounds great. Bass for days. Vocals are bright with some sibilance. Groove floor isn’t completely silent but quiet to not be a distraction. I think some of the cuts have been shortened to fit on one LP. Nice to reach for this off the shelf and have some older Chicago with an adult beverage. Recommended listening.

Gotta say that it’s fine. It’s a little muffled, but these usually go for pretty cheap. Still an enjoyable listen.

This pressing is flat and lifeless. Too bad, because Chicago needs all the help they can get.

Great compilation of old school Chicago. So much sound coming out of this band. Very enjoyable.

Record skips with even very minor scuffs, paired with distortion in the vocals. Must have very shallow grooves, or something.

Great sounding disc. Thankfully Rhino left this one alone and simply reissued the existing master, so it has full dynamics. "Make Me Smile" does sound pretty awful here compared to the other tracks but I don't think this compilation is to blame for that.

Picked this up as part of a Target Black Friday promo - honestly sounds great to my ears! No noise at all and dynamic.

Anybody else have trouble playing the stereo mix? Atmos & Quad mixes play fine, but stereo doesn't play through my speakers.

This Canadian pressing couldn't sound worse. Mastered poorly, with bass levels varying tremendously between songs. Not recommended in the slightest.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one to feel this original pressing left something to be desired. It wasn't that there was too much music per side-- about 22 1/2 minutes apiece, just at the limit. But if just didn't have any punch or clarity, almost like it was on CD before CDs existed. Someone told me maybe I caught the tail end of a worn out mother that was used to make the pressing. I guess not. Wonder what went wrong? Such great material!
