Mirroring what others have said here, this is a great pressing. Tight bass, good transparency and dynamics, cool packaging, a must have for anyone who likes the roots.
-
Does anyone know how many copies have been pressed of this reissue? My best guess is 10,000 based on the Discogs "Have (~6.1K)" vs "Want (`1.3K)"
-
Great pressing, sounds very good. One of my favorite albums from The Roots, very different. Greffen Records really makes good job.

Edited 3 years agoThis sounds great. Pressed well. Bass is tight, percussion is punchy, vocals are clear and esses aren't esssshhes. Really a great release from VMP, wish all of their RHH series sounded like this.
I am a peripheral fan of The Roots in the sense that I've listened to most of their albums and enjoyed many of them, but couldn't name very many tracks and I've never thought of them as one of my favorite bands. I definitely would not have checked out this album were it not for this VMP release. It's an odd one in their discography, but you can't deny the sound here is spot on and there are some winning tracks for sure. Once 'Sacrifice' started, I knew this was gonna be a smooth listen. -
Prodigious sound here, friends. The bass on this thing is THICK. Percussion is punchy. It'll rattle the pad even at moderate volume. Beautiful presentation and packaging as is typical from VMP. High caliber release any way you look at it

Love this album, and love this band! The pressing and release by VMP is fantastic, worth every penny!
Seeds 2.0 is the song that got me into The Roots! LEGENDARY! -

This absolutely sounds better than I've ever heard this album sound. Phrenology is an album that i've deeply loved over the years, so I'm very familiar with how this "should" sound. especially on tracks like Water and Something in the Way of Things, it's like hearing it for the first time. clean and quiet in moments of silence; rich and dynamic at it's heights. Jacket, artwork, discs are all top notch.
i am extremely disappointed that it doesn't contain the false start of The Seed. I cannot fathom the reasoning was behind leaving this on the cutting floor. it's a small special detail that most people probably dont care about or have never heard. I also think it would have been a nice touch if they had separated the bonus tracks more (extra spacing or hidden groove track), but that's a stretch.
For me these minor (to some) things prevent this from being a flawless reissue. but in all other aspects this release nails it. -
Very nice pressing of another essential album. Sounds thick and warm. The beats and rhyme spitting are ultra present and the record offers a delicious vibe as the needle does a smooth clean groove ride. Very pleased with the quality of this pressing as well as the music it contains.
