I've had this album for about a year and a half, and it's had virtually no play since it was first delivered, and test driven. I wonder why? I just now, gave it two full plays using my headphones, and listening to it, very closely. This is my honest evaluation, good points and bad.
Billie's obvious ion, undeniable talent, and superb performance is without question. I'll establish that point right away. The high quality album cover, artwork, and booklet etc. are excellent. The light blue, slightly marbled disc, lying flat on my turntable's platter is a beautiful thing. The mastering of the album's musical material, to my ears, is probably as good as it can be, and unbeatable in my opinion. Everything else, also in my opinion, regarding the manufacture and presentation of this historical masterpiece, is garbage, and an insult to Billie Holiday. Noise, noise, noise, noise, and incessant mood spoiling noise, I find totally unacceptable. Shame on everyone who spearheaded the production, and controlled the quality, of this potentially beautiful record.
Some of you have complaints. Some have no complaints. Those of you with no complaints I envy, and congratulate you on being lucky enough to obtain such a fine quality record for your collection.
I find VMP's quality to be very unpredictable, one album to another, and we haven't done business, in quite some time. But I'm finding that obtaining product from an ever increasing number of record manufacturers and suppliers, to be a very risky and expensive business. Very disappointing. I could go on! Thanks for reading.

not sure this is stereo....original tapes are mono only and ive got the same sounds coming out of both speakers...cann anybody explain VMP's stereo designation?

Love this soundstage of this cut, but finding a decent amount of vocal sibilance/distortion on this one. Anybody else?

This is a fantastic record. I've been an average fan of Billie but I think this one will be on regular rotation.

Edited 3 years agoEdit April 30'22: Uh Oh..I just saw the replies to my original post that corrected my errors. I really don't know what the heck I did there, it was a while ago, but absolutely stand corrected and editing out my mistakes! It WAS pressed at GZ, thank you for the corrections.
This still holds true for me though: "The VMP issue is amazing, one of the richest and finest sounding lps I've heard." -
Really well done pressing of this record by VMP. Billie's voice is dynamic and so are her various bands. Get a copy before they go up in price.

It is a pity to see this fantastic album, in thus huge pressing, sold for few dollars. Better for the music lovers, that have the chance to buy this hidden gem for few

Edited 4 years agoMan, this thing sounds great until the last track of side A, which has some mild pops, but worse is the vocal distortion. Every other part of the record is pristine and side B sounds especially good.
