Edited 6 months ago5/5 album but the quality on this pressing really isn’t the best. The lofi sound, sounds very muddy and there’s a lot of surface noise. Towards the end of the last side there’s some serious pops that ruin the finale, my favorite part. Think i might try to buy a different variant

Just picked up a copy of this album- and I gotta say I’m impressed with all of it! Although some people complained about the glossy cover, I find it gives it a nice lacquered- almost painting-esque finish which blends nicely with the death of Marat on the cover, and the black border and backside. It was nice that they included proper poly-lined inner sleeves too. The vinyl itself looks great, I know some people didn’t like how light the color was, but that is how oxblood is supposed to look- it’s not necessarily supposed to look like *blood*. It’s just a plain good looking pair of splattered slabs! The sound quality is excellent- and I was surprised considering this is a GZ press...but then again, a fair few of my GZ pressed albums sound really good, so I guess they aren’t as bad as their reputation is. The sound is punchy, dynamic, and detailed, which again surprised me considering the lo-fi nature of the album. My virgin listen to Deathconciousness was on MP3, and this (expectedly) blows it out of the water. There are way more layers to the sound than I noticed on my first listen. Surface noise was at a minimum as well, which makes me think that some people who disliked the noise level of this pressing might just need to give their copies another good wet clean or two. I also preordered the clear+olive/black splatter variant of the most recent repress- so I will update this review with a comparison to see if there is any difference!

the flensy estimates that the next pressing is releasing in july. keep an eye on their twitter for when it drops cuz these sell faster and faster every time.

Edited 4 years agoJust listened to this nearly all the way through. This is a dynamic repress of an incredible album (which is hard to do, since the album is so lo-fi), but it took me a second to fully enjoy it.
Color? Looks fantastic. Not as "blood"y as I was hoping, more magenta/dragonfruit like another comment said. No biggie, still think it fits the album aesthetic fine and I'm not picky when it comes to differentiations from the mockup.
Sound? My first listen through, there was a load of crackles, especially noticeable on quieter parts (the opening track (also my favorite track) was unbearable to listen to). I gave it two cleans. It wasn't until swapping the records into my own anti-static sleeves that I noticed them abate slightly. The sleeves that come with the record are seemingly anti-static, but they have holes in the bottom that may have allowed dust to get on the record. YMMV on this one, though. Still not convinced. Maybe it's the splatter? I don't know. I'm using a Nagaoka MP-110 (that could probably use a new stylus anyway) and a Technics SL-230. The actual music itself past the crackles is phenomenal, despite the lo-fi aspect of the recording. Comparing it to Spotify, this version has better dynamics between instruments and seems less compressed.
Packaging? Gorgeous. Jacket is glossy and thick, and the book/"zine" is a great addition--lots of cool imagery, quotes, lyrics, and background info on the album. A lot bigger than I was expecting; I was expecting a shitty little booklet with some images/photos (it was called a "zine" on the site) this is a proper 70-page booklet.
If anyone missed it, it seems like the Flenser represses this constantly--apparently this is the tenth repress of this album, so don't fret...and don't pay scalpers, either! -
just got my copy in. honestly sounds a little bit BETTER than the last pressing, it sounds like the low end is a bit heavier on this release. definitely sounds better than digital, i never really say that about vinyl but deathcon sounds amazing here. the records also look great, but the oxblood color feels more like... sweet? than i expected? i like it, but it's almost like a dark magenta instead of a dark red. still not a bit fan of the glossy jacket though, just why? doesn't really fit the album imo. at least it makes the colors stick out more compared to the grainy, matte finish on previous pressings. the inner gatefold printing looks super sharp! book maybe feels a little bit bigger than the last pressing too (probably getting that wrong but my brain says it's a lil bigger). it didn't arrive as well packaged as the last pressing either, but it arrived fine so i can't really complain. it's probably a good idea to ask the label to ship the records outside of the jacket though. they did it by default last time around in these massive boxes, but now they use standard mailers and ship it pretty normally.

im happy they're so quick to repress this but who thought the glossy jacket was a good idea? this honestly looks like ass, i almost regret selling off my pink copy now.
