I just don't understand these reviewers claiming a horrible pressing to be sounding "awesome". Are they deaf? Are they hearing impaired? Do they play music with a Crosley? What is the matter with those people?
This is a horrible pressing. If you just know how a record can sound you only have to listen to this one to know it's poorly mastered.
So, I recently bought the Euopean 1986 version and got confirmed what I already knew. That's the version you want, not this 2016 reissue. -
When I bought this, I was ready to hear this great album in all its glory. Instead, to my horror, what I heard was a totally compressed mess. I could not believe how bad it was. Every single frequency was the same volume across the board. No dynamics and just lifeless and dull. It sounded like they were playing through a 3-inch speaker. Fortunately, it had a MP3 card. The mp3's sound dynamic and full of life. How could the mastering engineer mess it up this bad? For these reissues I wish they would stop messing with the original sound that we all love. So now I'm looking for an original LP that hasn't been played to death. :-(

Sound great, deep nice bass, clear highs and no surface noise. Only issue I have is that my copy came pretty dirty, a lot of industrial dust and small pieces of cardboard from the cover on the record.

Very happy with this pressing. Mine is really quiet. No noise between tracks, very minimal pops, but I suspect it's because the record had a lot of debris on it and I haven't cleaned it yet.
The sound is crisp. I will probably settle for this one for some time. -
Edited 4 years agoI'm not happy with the sound quality as compared to my original 1986 pressing. The lead-in and dead space between tracks are not quiet: they have an audible hiss. When the music plays, it seems a bit far away, like I would have to turn up the volume a little to get it to the same level as my original pressing. I was hoping for a nice, cleaner copy of this album with hopefully more depth and improved soundstage. I didn't get it.
Also, they put the record in a replica of the original glossy paper sleeve. With a heavier vinyl, it's much more static prone trying to take the record out of it. Other 180g re-issues from other bands/artists come in anti-static plastic or plastic-lined paper sleeves, but also include the original paper sleeve as part of the package. I wish they would've done the same with this one.
This was a hugely successful album when it was first released, I wish more care and respect had been taken with the vinyl re-issue. My 1986 pressing has a few little pops and crackles, but I guess I'll have to keep waiting for a good re-issue. I'm returning this sucker. -
